WILLIAM E. MATTHEWS

He has not been completely "proven", but there is good speculation that he is my oldest direct line Matthews ancestor. I will keep him as generation one until otherwise proven. He married DORCAS WRIGHT. Their dates of birth, death and their burial location are unknown at this time. They had issue below:(Generation 2)

LEVI MATTHEWS

His birth date is unknown, and he married June 12, 1825 NANCY ANN HAYS in Wilkinson County, Georgia. She was born February 25, 1803 in South Carolina. She died June 26, 1852. He died around 1838 in Wilkinson County, Georgia. There burial locations are unknown at this time. They had issue below:(Generation 3)

He was born around 1829 in Georgia and married LOUISA F. REEVES (See Reeves) September 26,1849 in Crawford County, Georgia. She was born around 1829 in Fayette County, Georgia, daughter of WILLIAM REEVES and CAMILLA M. CLEVELAND. He fought in the 19th Battalion GA Cavalry Co. A "Ocmulgee Rangers" which combined with the CSA 10^th Cavalry during the American Civil War. He died in Decatur County, Georgia and is buried in the Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge, Decatur Co., Georgia. They had issue below:(Generation 4)

MARY E. J. MATTHEWS

She was born January 14, 1860 in Houston County, Georgia. She married JAMES R. BABBIT. She died October 29, 1896 and is buried in Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia. They had issue: (1) Mary Clifford, (2) Pierre, and (3) Nell.

REMUS HAYES MATTHEWS

He was born January 20, 1851. He married LUCY FRANCES GRIFFIN (See Griffin) January 31, 1875. She was born September 27, 1853 daughter of BENJAMIN MITCHELL GRIFFIN and ELOISA ANN HULL. He died August 28, 1917 in Decatur County, Georgia. She died in October 1938 in Decatur Co., Georgia. They are both buried in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Decatur Co., Georgia. They had issue below: (Generation 5)

GEORGIA LEE MATTHEWS

He was born around 1854 and died on April 29, 1860 in Houston County, Georgia.

ROMULUS WRIGHT MATTHEWS

He was born around 1862. No other information is known about him at this time.

ALMA HAYES MATTHEWS

She was born September 08, 1877 in Decatur Co., Georgia. She married JOHN EDWARD SHOLAR December 26, 1897. He was born February 17, 1868 in Henry County, Alabama, son of EDWARD SHOLAR and MARTHA MARGRET ANDREWS. He died March 01, 1940 and she died November 27, 1965 and both are buried in the Long Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Grady County, Georgia.

OSCAR HORA MATTHEWS

He was born January 18, 1879. He married (1) ADA CATO. She was born October 18,1879. She died October 18, 1928 and is buried in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Decatur County, Georgia.

He married (2) ANNA BARFIELD. She was born around 1904. He died February 1964 and she died in 1967 and both are buried in Oak City Cemetery, Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia.

MYRA ELOISE MATTHEWS

She was born April 04, 1881. She died around 1884.

BEN HENRY MATTHEWS

He was born July 19, 1883. He married KATE WYNN. He died May 1972.

JAMES WRIGHT MATTHEWS

He was born December 28, 1885 in Decatur County, Georgia and married GILBERT DEE NICHOLS (See Nichols) December 10, 1926 in Decatur County, Georgia. She was born January 12, 1905 in Decatur County, Georgia, daughter of EARLY ALLISON NICHOLS and BRIDGET BEATRICE COX. He died October 05, 1966 in Decatur County, Georgia and is buried in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Decatur Co., Georgia.

ROSSIE REEVES MATTHEWS

She was born July 14, 1887. She died January 20, 1968 and is buried in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Decatur County, Georgia. She never married.

ROMULUS LEE MATTHEWS

She was born August 05, 1889. She died in Naranja, Florida. She never married.

REMUS PAULETTE MATTHEWS

He was born August 25, 1891. He married (1) ROBA COX. She was born October 31, 1898. She died January 17, 1919 and is buried in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Decatur County, Georgia.

He married (2) LUCY NELL CLOUD. She was born September 06, 1915. She died September 09, 1996 and is buried in Bethany Baptist Church, Decatur County, Georgia. He died October 01, 1974 and is buried in Bethel Baptist Church, Decatur Co., Georgia.

ANNA MAE MATTHEWS

She was born September 08, 1893. She married ALVA ASA ADAMS. He was born May 22, 1893. He died November 14, 1939 and she died June 13, 1971 and both are buried in Oak City Cemetery, Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia.

GEORGE RUSSELL MATTHEWS

FRANCES BELLE MATTHEWS
